National Science Challenge 11: Building Better Homes, Towns and Cities | Shaping Places: Future Neighbourhoods
As part of the National Science Challenge 11: Building Better Homes, Towns and Cities, our researchers were involved with the strategic research area “Shaping Places: Future Neighbourhoods”. This study comprised a $2.5m research project funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, carried out from 2016 to 2019.
This research focused on the larger cities – home to around half of all New Zealanders. It leads to an understanding of the principles and processes that create more successful neighbourhoods. One way it does this is by investigating the complex factors involved in urban design, especially in relation to New Zealand cities. This will improve future urban environments through better planning and better integrating affordable housing in future communities.
